Day 1: Zhujiajiao Water TownYour Shanghai trip is incomplete without visiting the famous Zhujiajiao Water Town. Located just an hour away from the city center, this town is a perfect representation of Chinas ancient water towns. You can explore the towns unique architecture, narrow alleyways, and bridges. The most famous bridge here is the Fangsheng Bridge, also known as the setting of many Chinese movies and TV shows. Day 2: Suzhou
Located just 100 kilometers away from Shanghai, Suzhou is another great destination for a day trip from Shanghai. Suzhou is also known as the "Venice of the East" and is famous for its beautiful gardens, canals, and silk production. You can visit the Humble Administrators Garden, one of Chinas most famous gardens. This garden was built during the Ming Dynasty and covers an area of 50,000 square meters. You can also visit the Suzhou Silk Museum to learn about the process of silk production and even buy souvenirs.
Day 3: HangzhouIf you have one more day to explore, you can head to Hangzhou, which is around 180 kilometers from Shanghai. Hangzhou is known for its beautiful West Lake, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can take a boat ride or stroll around the lake, enjoying the beautiful scenery. Another must-visit place in Hangzhou is the Lingyin Temple, which is one of the largest and oldest Buddhist temples in China. The temple was first built during the Eastern Jin Dynasty and has been renovated many times since then. You can also try Hangzhous famous dish, the West Lake Fish in Vinegar Gravy, which is a delicious local delicacy.
If you are short on time and dont want to travel too far from Shanghai, you can also visit some nearby attractions like the famous Tianzifang in the French Concession area or the iconic Bund area along the Huangpu River.
